Social-Emotional Learning seeks to guide students as they work through their emotions. Learning to feel and show empathy, as well as building supportive relationships with their peers is important to their overall development. Furthermore, SEL provides students the tools need to make responsible decisions to benefit themselves and their goals, while still being respectful of others.
Self-management is one of the 5 specific competencies within the larger SEL umbrella. It specifically focuses on emotional regulation and learning how to navigate difficult situations. These are important skills for developing children to learn as they interact with their peers both inside and outside the classroom.
