In this fifth book in the Stitch Head series, a terrible beast roams the town of Grubbers Nubbin every night, looking for food. Can Stitch Head and the others solve this monstrous mystery?
The orphans at Castle Grotteskew are causing chaos ... and getting hungry. With no food in the castle, Stitch Head and Arabella head down to Grubbers Nubbin to see what they can pilfer, but there they encounter a terrifying, savage beast. Could one of Professor Erasmus’s creations be on the loose? Features black-and-white gothic-inspired illustrations throughout.
Welcome to Castle Grotteskew, where Mad Professor Erasmus makes creatures out of spare parts and then casts them aside, looking to make bigger and better. Stitch Head, his first creation, has a heart of gold and is always willing to show the other monsters the ropes—and bail them out of trouble! Join Stitch Head and the other occupants of the castle in this exciting series, full of adventures of an almost-lifetime!
Gr 3-5–In the town of Grubbers Nubbin, a new beast has emerged, and it’s up to Stitch Head to stop it. Recently, Stitch Head rescued a large group of orphans from an “evil spiderlady who fed on their souls” and has taken them under his care. However, his friend Arabella believes that the castle where they reside—owned by a professor who creates monsters—is no place for humans. Despite this, Stitch Head is determined to keep his promise to protect them. While stealing food for the orphans in town, he encounters the monstrous beast. Upon discovering that a human from the castle used his master’s “beast yeast” potion to transform into the creature, Stitch Head must find a cure. The story’s morbid, horrorlike illustrations complement its dark tone. VERDICT A strong addition to children’s horror collections, especially where the “Stitch Head” series is already popular.--School Library Journal
