Let’s celebrate the birthday of the award-winning author and illustrator of The Very Hungry Caterpillar; The Grouchy Lady Bug; and Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see? The remarkable author had an eventful life, from his German roots to his literary success with children’s picture books. Eric Carle was born on June 25, 1929, in Syracuse, New York, and moved to Germany in 1935 where he got in touch with his ethnic roots. Eric Carle’s fascination with nature and the environment in Germany inspired most of his illustrated works, including his most popular book The Very Hungry Caterpillar! Before his death on May 23, 2021, Eric and his wife Bobbie founded the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, New York!
