World Gratitude Day, celebrated annually on September 21st, is a day where people are encouraged to express their gratefulness to those in their life.
It was in 1965, when Sri Chinmoy proposed the concept after a meditation session. He reflected on the need of a day dedicated to togetherness, and to commemorate one another. Chinmoy sought for this day where the world could experience universal gratitude, and experience appreciation for one another.
Expressing gratitude can take many forms, from showing kindness in both words and actions, or acknowledging achievements of oneself as well as others. Classrooms are an ideal environment for discussing and teaching the value of gratitude. They are valuable in gathering students together to participate in hands on activities, such as writing thank you letters or sharing an accomplishment that they are proud of.
