Penguin Random House US is excited to announce the establishment of Currency, a new imprint of the Crown Publishing Group. President and Publisher Maya Mavjee announced the news in a press release Wednesday morning.

With vast technological, economic, political, and societal forces driving disruptive change in all spheres of work and life, Currency will be a nonfiction imprint dedicated to publishing both narrative-driven and practical books by thought leaders across a range of creative disciplines to help us navigate and succeed in an uncertain and rapidly evolving world. The imprint’s areas of editorial focus will encompass business, with an emphasis on innovative practice and entrepreneurship; economics and finance; and individual, organizational, and societal transformation and growth. Its mission will be to provide a platform for relevant, inspiring voices who challenge established boundaries and orthodoxies, inspire conversation, and offer new perspectives on building lives with meaning and purpose.

With this editorial mandate, Currency will build upon and expand the vibrant publishing legacy of our dedicated business books imprint, Crown Business, which has in recent years originated numerous bestselling and paradigm-shifting publications by some of the most influential business figures and thinkers of our time. Among these are the # 1 New York Times bestseller Zero to One by Peter Thiel; The Lean Startup by Eric Ries; The Start-up of You by LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman; Switch and Decisive by Chip Heath and Dan Heath; Rework by Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson; Essentialism by Greg McKeown; Makers and Takers by Rana Foroohar; Creative Confidence by Tom Kelley and David Kelley of IDEO; and Why Nations Fail by Daron Acemoglu and James Robinson, which was shortlisted for the 2012 Financial Times and Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year Award.

Books currently in the Crown Business development pipeline will now be issued under the Currency imprint, with future reprints of backlist titles in Crown Business’s extensive catalog also being issued under the Currency brand. The Crown Business name and logo will be retired over time.

Among the future authors to be published by Currency who well-represent the spirit and intent of this new imprint are Eric Ries, whose new book The Startup Way will be published this fall; Beth Comstock, Vice Chair of General Electric; LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman; organizational psychologist Tasha Eurich; and Girls Who Code founder Reshma Saujani.
